Why should you use this site?
All the information on this site is here to give you an honest inside look at how an employer really evaluates your resume, job interview, and value to the company.
Why?
So you can use this information and finally run a successful job search.
Due to the fear of lawsuits and bad press you can never get a straight answer from companies anymore.
Once upon a time companies sent generic rejection letters, then generic rejection emails to now no answer at all. How can you possibly improve your performance without any meaningful feedback?
You can’t.
Well why me?
I ask myself that same question everyday, but seriously. I have spent most of the last ten years reviewing, evaluating, and processing job applications. In that time I have seen enough doomed applicants to know exactly what not to do during your job search.
No really, why me?
I also happened to figure out quite a few things about what make candidates stand out from other candidates. And it’s not always the most qualified candidate that gets picked. Not necessarily fair but true.
So I guess that makes me another self proclaimed flawless gurus with all the answers right? Not exactly. Much of what I learned about landing a job in a tough economy came from all the mistakes I made looking for jobs in a booming economy.
In the past six years I was unemployed twice. The first time was when the economy was booming and employers couldn’t give jobs away quick enough.
Ironically, even under those great economic conditions it took me months to find a job after being laid off. Then I stumbled into my current career path. That’s when I saw all the things that I routinely did that hurt my chances at getting hired done by many job searchers over and over again.
Then I found myself unemployed in the midst of the worst economic meltdown since the Great Depression. This time I worked a little harder and much smarter than the first time. I found a job with the same salary and benefits as the one I lost using the same strategies I outline on the site and with the Unemployees.
If you want to be the one person hired out of the huge pile of resumes sitting on the recruiter’s desk then you’re going to need the right information organized into the right plan. That’s what I provide for you here. Without a good game plan you’ll just be flopping around the job market for months on end like the majority of other unemployed people.
