Which job search websites are the best? With all the different job search websites out there to choose from I get this question pretty frequently. So I decided to put together a short list of job search websites that no serious job search should be without.
One issue with major job search websites is that their success starts to become a drawback. The jobs posted on the most popular sites get flooded with job applicants. That flood tends to drown the employers with applications and substantially increase the competition among job applicants.
The upside is that the more popular a site become the more employers will want to post their jobs on it. With the increased availability of jobs comes the increased chance you’ll find one. So you just have to take the good with the bad.
Why should you post your resume on more than one job search website?
There are quite a few reasons why you should have your resume posted on at least 3-5 job search websites:
- It increases your exposure to different recruiters and job openings. Not every employer can afford to post their jobs on the major job search websites. So they rely on sites that are lesser known but just as good.
- It increases your chances of your resume even getting read. Some reports place the number of job applicants to job openings at 5-1. With those type of odds you have to create any advantage you can by having your resume in more places than your fellow job searchers.
Below are what I feel are the three best job search websites that you can use to give your job search some new energy.
Even with the drawback of maybe getting lost in a sea of job searchers you should include at least one of the “Big Three” job search websites. The major search engines gives you great access to what employers are hiring and for what positions. You can then use that information to target your job search on some of the smaller job search websites.
Monster is probably the most recognizable job search website on the planet right now. Normally I would prefer to list a lesser known job search engine that you can use as a secret weapon against other job searchers.
Monster actually matches their slick advertising with a very user friendly site filled with a ton of extras. With all the extra information about resumes, interviews, salaries, networking, and interviewing tips, Monster has turned themselves into a pretty good one stop job search resource if you’re looking for job.
Beyond is one of the job search websites that I really like. It is a collection of smaller niche websites in one central website. It lets you focus on specific industries and locations while still being searched for by other employers in every industry.
Beyond is the type of job search website you need to really give your job search a boost. It’s big enough to put your resume in front of more employers who are looking for your skills. But not so big that the employers might be overwhelmed by the number of candidates on a huge job search website like Monster.
Job.com provides the best of both worlds for your job search. They have many of the tools and resources of all in one job search website like Monster but minus the Superbowl ads. They also incorporate the local and niche job search approach of Beyond.
The main thing to remember is that you want to maximize your exposure by using the right mix of job search websites. That way you can be visible to most employers while also separating your self from other job applicants by getting your resume on good sites where they may not have posted their resumes. Every extra thing that you do that another job applicant doesn’t do gives you the advantage in finding a job sooner.
